Oral Hygiene & Fresh Breath

Regular scaling and polishing by one of our hygienists will help keep your teeth and gums healthy, your smile whiter and your breath fresher.

Scaling removes the hard tartar which cannot be removed by brushing, and stains from coffee, tea, cigarettes or red wine are removed by polishing.

It is gum disease and not tooth decay that is the major cause of tooth loss in adult patients. Bacteria thrive in the plaque and tartar on your teeth, producing harmful chemicals that irritate your gums and cause them to bleed, eventually causing teeth to become loose. Therefore, regular removal of bacteria, plaque and tartar professionally by the hygienist is essential to maintain healthy gums.

Excellent home care is also vital so the hygienist will also show you brushing and flossing techniques which will help you keep your teeth in the best condition.

This way you can:
* Avoid fillings
* Reduce dental costs
* Maintain fresh breath
* Keep your teeth for ever.

It is widely accepted by the medical profession that Gum Disease can affect our general heath adversely. It can even increase the risk of heart disease and strokes. So by visiting the hygienist on a regular basis you are also looking after your general heath and well being.

The Wand

The Wand is probably the most comfortable way to give a local anaesthetic and many Patients find it virtually pain free .We are fortunate to be one of the few Practices in the area who have invested in this fine piece of equipment. Using a computerised gentle pump the local anaesthetic is instilled by the computer instead of using an old fashioned needle and syringe and to make this even more comfortable topical anaesthetic is applied to the gum area first. Many of our Patients say the use of this wand is so comfortable that they almost miss when it is used, which has the benefit of being numb for treatment without having to undergo discomfort in the first place.
