Implants

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is a necessary procedure which is required when the blood and nerve supply of a tooth (also referred to as dental pulp) become infected by bacteria. These infections will normally occur as a result of decay or traumatic dental injury. Bacterial Infections can spread throughout the root canal system of the tooth, which may in time result in destruction of the surrounding jaw bone. This can often present itself as a painful abscess or, a facial swelling in more extreme cases.

The treatment for this condition is to clean the root canal system within the tooth in order to eliminate the infection. Furthermore, the treatment involves the placement of filling material (root canal filling) to provide a seal against any further re-infection.

In conclusion this treatment can prevent any infection from spreading and ultimately save a tooth that would, left untreated, require extraction.
